Wrekin Arts Photographic Club Newsletter 10 2015/16 5 January 2016

I hope that you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This Friday the second merit pdi competition will be judged by Judged by Dave Tucker, AFIAP, DPAGB, CPAGB, BPE3*. Before that at 6.45pm Calvin will be hosting a review of the Learner hour when the club will need to decide the following: Is it useful; Is there enough interest; What do people want to cover / what subjects; Do we have the people to run the sessions?

Calvin says, “Remember this hour is FOR EVERYONE. We cover a wide range of subjects and can cover more than just basic Beginner subjects/content. We are ALL learners to some degree or another. I for one have learnt a few things in the process of running sessions.” So if you have an interest in the learner hour, come along this Friday at 6.45pm armed with suggestions.

On Friday 15 January  Derek Doar DPAGB http://www.ddimages.co.uk/index.html (supported by Fotospeed) will talk about his “Passion for Printing” where he will provide tips and techniques for all levels of ability. David has been involved in Photography for some 53 years printing in both black and white and colour. He would like to share some of the knowledge he has gained on his journey into Digital Photography as well as some of the images that he produced along the way. His website contains a lot of information on printing techniques and it is well worth visiting.

On Saturday 16 January, the club presents the 5th Wrekin Salon Exhibition at the Belfrey Theatre, adjacent to the club room. Jon has been working very hard over the last few weeks producing audio visual shows of all the images accepted into the Salon. Doors are open at 1.30pm and the exhibition will be opened at 2pm by Councillor Leon Murray, Mayor of Telford and Wrekin who will also present the awards. This event is free for all club members and £2 for other guests. So come along and see some of the very best of world photography in the comfort of raked theatre seats. You won’t be disappointed!

If you can’t make that date then the exhibition will be shown at the club room Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 January at 8pm. There will be Open Colour and Mono on the 18th, Nature and Photo Travel on the 19th and finally, open Colour and Mono again on the 19th.

Smethwick International Salon Exhibition continues to be shown this week until Sunday 10 January. Full details, including times, prices and sections to be shown can be found at http://www.smethwickphotographic.co.uk/SPS-International.html

Looking a little further ahead, Libby Smith EFIAP, MPAGB, APAGB (supported by Permajet) will be presenting a Workshop at the Club on Sunday 13 March at 1030am. It will include soft proofing, preparing images for printing and how to get the most out of your pictures. Tickets are £25 for the full day workshop and booking is essential. Contact Tony on 01952 617170 or tonythomas5@gmail.com Last year’s workshop was a sell out. Don’t leave it too long before booking.

And finally I have some very sad news to report. Our dear friend, Roger Hague, passed away on Christmas Day. As many of you know, Roger was an active participant in all aspects of photography in the West Midlands and was a past chairman of the club. Our thoughts are with Helena at this time. Details of the funeral will be announced later.
