Wrekin Arts Photographic Club Newsletter 18/2014-15 May 2015

This Friday, Barbara Lawton FRPS, DPAGB from Smethwick Photographic Society visits the club to judge our Natural History Competition.

On Friday 15 May we have a DVD of the London Salon of Photography Exhibition 2014 http://www.londonsalon.org/ The London Salon of Photography is a unique body of photographers whose sole aim is to exhibit the very best of pictorial photographic imagery. Membership of the Salon is by invitation only. Salon members galleries can be seen at http://www.londonsalon.org/#/members-galleries/4570401509

Then on 22 May, Mark Sisson, http://www.marksissonphoto.co.uk/ Local Award Winning Nature Photographer joins us to show his latest images. Friday 22 May is also the hand in night for the fourth and final Merit Print Competition.

We are trialling a new process for print competitions starting with the Merit Print competition on 22 May. The purpose is to hold digital images of the prints so that award winning images can be loaded onto the Club Website for viewing and are available for the Club to see when selecting for National Club competitions. The process is exactly the same as for PDI entries. You login to the online entry system (click here) and select the relevant competition (in this case 4th Merit Print competition) and follow the process to upload your digital images. Remember for Prints there are two sections - Mono and Colour (of course you don't have to enter both).

THIS IS NOT A REGISTRATION OF PRINTS FOR THE COMPETITION - you continue as always to bring your prints in on the Friday before the competition. However, the 'digital upload' will close on the Friday midnight before the competition, as normal. If you don't upload the digital image of your Print, it can't be shown on the Website should you win an award.

You need to size and format your Print digital image (the one you will upload – not your print version!) exactly the same as for PDIs e.g. sRGB, max 1400*1050 etc.
For those of you who use Lightroom, this can be easily done by using the export function against your print images. Make sure you set it correctly for SRGB, JPEG etc. and use the dimension setting to resize, specifying 1400*1050. Once you have set this up, you can save it as a pre-set export for future use. If anyone has difficulties, contact Calvin (Calvin.downes@btinternet.com) for assistance. It is possible you may be asked whether you are an Intermediate or Advanced when uploading, if so make sure you select the correct one!

On Monday 11 May and Saturday 16 May, Jon is running the first of the Portrait Group Sessions at Blists Hill Museum http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/ Several club members who have joined the portrait group are going but if anyone else is interested then meet in Blists Hill Car Park ( Sat Nav TF7 5UD) at 10.15 on either day. There is a car park charge of £2. Discounted rates for club members will apply - £13.25 for adults and £12.25 for over 60’s payable on the day. Please contact Jon salon@wrekinarts.com if you’re interested.

Looking forward to the finals night competitions In June and July, members will be able to enter 4 images (instead of the usual 3) in each of the competitions. Don’t forget that you need to have entered at least 2 of the relevant merit competitions to enter the finals. Full rules as ever on the website http://wrekinartspc.com/competition-links-organisations-and-club-guides/
