Wrekin Arts Photographic Club Newsletter 5 2021/22 23 November 2021

I’m sad to announce that David Roberts passed away in the early hours of Saturday 20 November after a short illness.

David was a committee member of Wrekin Arts Photographic Club joining in 2014 but he spent most of his photographic life at Handsworth. My lasting memories of David are his wicked sense of humour and laugh which we all experienced during our Zoom meetings. Our thoughts are with Jean and family.

On Friday 26 November, Stan Farrow, FRPS, EFIAP, DPAGB https://www.stanfarrowphotography.co.uk from Fife presents his online talk “PhotoArt” at 7.30pm. Stan says, "My talk starts with the work in my latest exhibition which ran from July to October 2019. It then moves on to more recent work produced during the coronavirus lockdown then continues right up to the present.” The talk will not be recorded so I’m afraid you’ve only got one chance to see it!

On Friday 3 December Mike Martin EFIAP, AWPF https://www.mikemartinphotography.co.uk from Bristol Photographic Society https://bristolphoto.org.uk presents his online talk “It’s not what you see, it’s what you make.”. Mike introduces us to his approach to creative image making before showing us his successful Welsh Associate panel. This will be followed by a live Photoshop demonstration.

Tony would like all members to contact him either by email tonymthomas5@gmail.com or phone 01952 617170 to indicate whether they are willing to come back to the club room for meetings in January. Tony needs to book speakers for next year so it’s important that you contact him as soon as possible.

A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion about Sensor Cleaning at our Zoom meeting and Roger mentioned that he goes to an excellent little shop in Newcastle under Lyme. He’s now sent me the details - HiTech Camera Repairs, 10B Watlands View, Porthill, Newcastle under Lyme ST5 8AA. Telephone 01782 713544. I’ve now found their webpage http://www.hitechcamerarepairs.co.uk/Default.aspx and see that they charge £30 for professional sensor cleaning while you wait. Obviously you need to phone and book beforehand. They are situated on the first floor in case this is an issue for members.

Finally I’ve come across a couple of Black Friday software deals. DxO, which includes the Nik software suite are offering half price on all their software https://shop.dxo.com/en/ The Nik collection is reduced to £67.50. Topaz Labs https://topazlabs.com/shop/ are offering 25% discount on Gigapixel, DeNoise and Sharpen until 29 November. If you buy all 3 packages together then there is a 60% discount until the same date.
