Wrekin Arts Photographic Club Newsletter 12 2023/24 30 January 2024

This Friday. Julian Elliot https://www.julianelliottphotography.com presents his Zoom talk in the club room at 7.30pm “The Fjords of Patagaonia” Julian says “The talk is about a journey to the end of the world. You can follow me on a trip to the fjords of Patagonia and see the challenges faced by a professional photographer.”

Visitors are welcome to join this talk and tickets are available through Eventbite https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-fjords-of-patagonia-a-zoom-talk-with-julian-elliott-tickets-774759465417 for £4

On Friday 9 February we present  “A talk on AVs - Creation and use" by Alistair Taylor ARPS, DPAGB/AV, AV/AFIAP. Alistair is Editor of AV News for the RPS https://rps.org/groups/audio-visual/av-news-magazine/ and a member of Newport Photographic Club. I’m told he’s an excellent speaker. He specialises in documentary and travel photography and will use AV techniques to show how you can bring your images alive. His talk will include a range of styles from simple interpretation of music and song, through travel photography, landscapes and humour. Should be an enjoyable evening.

The PAGB Seventh Masters of Print Exhibition opens at 2pm on Saturday 3 February at St Martin in the Bull Ring, Edgbaston Street, Birmingham B5 5BB. It runs until 29 February but I can’t find any opening times for 4 February onwards either on the PAGB https://www.pagbnews.co.uk/sites/default/files/https://www.pagbnews.co.uk/sites/default/files/newsletters/MASTERS%20OF%20PRINT%20LEAFLET.pdf/MASTERS%20OF%20PRINT%20LEAFLET.pdf or Church Websites.

Looking a little further ahead, Friday 15 February is the hand in night for the mobile phone competition.

Closing date for Midphot is Saturday 10 February. However if you want to enter prints, Norman has agreed to take them to Smethwick PS for any member who enters so please bring them to the club meeting on Friday 9 February. You can find the rules and a link to the online entry system at https://mcpf.co.uk/midphot

Finally, a couple of dates to put in your diary for the summer. Wellington Midsummer Fayre https://wellingtonsoup.org/events/wellington-midsummer-fayre/ is on Saturday 8 June. The club has an exhibition at this event where members can also sell prints. We’re looking for help in erecting the gazebo, preparing the exhibition and being around to tell people about the club. Let me know if you can help. Then 2 weeks later Belfrey Arts Centre will hold a Summer Fair on Saturday 22 June 12 noon to 4pm. There will be stalls for hire, with food and entertainment available. Both events give us an opportunity to promote the club and hopefully recruit some new members.
