Wrekin Arts Photographic Club Newsletter 14 2016/17 7 March 2017

This Friday Maggie LRPS, CPAGB and Ron Tear ARPS, MPAGB, PSA3*, BPE3* http://www.ronandmaggietear.co.uk present their lecture “The Big Picture Show.” Be prepared to see some very large prints!

In the learner hour this week and for the next couple of weeks members of that group will be taking images of other members to put on the “put a face to the name” section of the web site. All members are encouraged to attend but it isn’t compulsory. it was agreed at the last AGM and it should help to identify people within the club. Come along between 1900 and 1940 have your portrait taken and Calvin will email you the results so you can choose your best side!

Next Friday, 17 March, Laurie Campbell, one of Scotland’s leading natural history and landscape photographers will visit to share his distinctive images with us. http://www.lauriecampbell.com/portfolio.htm Laurie graduated from a 4 year degree in photography at Napier University in 1985 and became Scotland’s first full-time professional nature photographer. He has an archive of more than 180,000 images and in 2014 was given a Lifetime Achievement Award by the RSPB in recognition of the effects his photography has had in conservation in Scotland.

Laurie is the author of several books (they may be on sale on the night) and writes regularly for “Outdoor Photography” He is also a valued photographic judge and is on the panel for the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. We should be treated to an exceptional display of wildlife photography so please make every effort to attend. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

The Learner Hour will continue with the portrait photography outlined for the previous week.

Jon starts showing the Wrekin Salon Images at Newport Photographic Club tonight. Between now and 23 May he will be at Tettenhall Wood, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, Whtichurch and Walsall Wood. On Sunday 12 March, The Ultimate Dubs is at The Telford International Centre http://www.ultimate-dubs.co.uk where you’ve got the chance to photograph VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda show cars from all over Europe. A few days laters, the British Alpaca Society http://basnationalshow.co.uk have there show at the same venue on 25 and 26 March.

And finally can you help with some research? Carmel Delany from Bristol is carrying out research based around influencers in the imaging electronics world.
