Wrekin Arts Photographic Club Newsletter 15 2022/23 18 April 2023

This Friday, Tony makes his return to the club stage with another of his print lectures.

Then on Friday 28 April we welcome Graham Walton DPAGB to give his print lecture “50 Shades of Brown”

The Landscape and Natural History competitions will take place in the middle of May. This is normally a print and PDI competition. Tony is trying to gauge the number of people who want to enter prints so perhaps you can either let me know or see Tony on Friday night. Just a reminder, the rules require that you only enter new work for both these competitions. You can of course use your entry in subsequent competitions subject to the rules https://wrekinartspc.com/competition-links-organisations-and-club-guides

There’s been some controversy in this year’s Sony World Photography Awards https://www.worldphoto.org/2023-open-competition-winners-shortlist German artist Boris Eldagsen’s entry, entitled Pseudomnesia: The Electrician, won the creative open category at last week's Sony World Photography Award. He said he used the picture to test the competition and to create a discussion about the future of photography. It was created entirely using AI techniques and now he has refused to accept the prize https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/apr/17/photographer-admits-prize-winning-image-was-ai-generated

The Wales Comic Con comes to Telford International Centre 13 & 14 May. Might be worth looking around Telford Town Centre that weekend for some unusual photos!

Finally, the MCPF Print and PDI Club Championships 2023 https://mcpf.co.uk/print-and-pdi-championships are at The Civic Centre, Braunstone, Leicester LE3 2PP starting at 1030am. Tickets are £8 on the door. The club will not be entering but you are still able to attend
