Wrekin Arts Photographic Club Newsletter 12 2018/19 5 February 2019

This Friday we showcase another of Wrekin Arts talented photographers and welcome Ed Philips http://www.edphillipswildlife.com for his first talk. Ed will show some great macro work and maybe some still-life images.

There won’t be a Learners Hour either this Friday or next Friday.

You can see more of Ed’s work at the Photo Space Gallery in Ludlow http://www.thephotospace.co.uk/en/page_16656.html on Saturday 9 February between 1030 and 4.30 and then every Wednesday to Saturday at the same time until 9 March. Ed is one of  7 local photographers who won a place in the Ludlow 7 Photography competition to exhibit photographs. It’s now up to you to visit and vote for your favourite photographer. The “Peoples Choice” will be offered a solo exhibition at The Photo Space. Last year’s winner, Tottie Aarvold https://www.tottieaarvold.com has her exhibition “Irregular Irregularities” running at he same time as the Ludlow 7 Competition.

On Friday 15 February Stephen Clifford CPAGB, BPE3*, AFIAP will judge the 3rd Merit PDI competition.

Looking a little further ahead, Rod Wheelans MFIAP, MPAGB, Hon PAGB will be presenting “Holiday Snaps and Other Stuff” on Friday 22 February. Rod is travelling from Dumfries so please put the date in your diary now and make every effort to attend.

Our club has performed well in another external competition. We came joint 4th (out of 68) in the open section of the GB Cup (Projected Images) 2019 and Roger Evans won a bronze medal for the best sports photo with “Pike Position Dive.” We were 7th in the Nature section, just 9 points behind the winners. There’s a couple of events you might be interested in at Telford International Centre. Firstly the Classic Dirt Bike Show on 16 and 17 February https://www.classicbikeshows.com/event/the-classic-dirt-bike-show/ Then on 10 March there’s the Ultimate Dubs 2019 when VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda Show cars from all over Europe are under one roof https://www.ultimate-dubs.co.uk/tickets 

The British Wildlife Photography Awards https://www.bwpawards.org are now open for entry until 6 April when you have a chance to win £5,000. Winning entries from the 2018 competition can be seen at Jackfield Tile Museum from 11 May to 10 September https://www.ironbridge.org.uk/events/family-events/british-wildlife-photography-awards-exhibition/
