Wrekin Arts Photographic Club Newsletter 19 2017/18 1 May 2018

This Friday, Ian Whiston DPAGB, EFIAP, ABPE from Crewe Photographic Society http://www.crewephotosoc.com judges the Natural History Competition.

On Friday 11 May we will have a showing of high quality digital projected images from the London Salon 2017 http://www.londonsalon.org Come along and see if you can spot any Wrekin Member’s entries!

Friday 11 May is also the hand in night for the 4th Merit PDI competition. Entry is via the online entry system as before. http://wrekinartspc.com/competition-links-organisations-and-club-guides/ Hand in night for the 4th Merit Print competition will be Friday 25 May.

The club had a rather successful day at the MCPF Print and PDI knockout championships held on 21 April. We came 4th in the PDI section and 3rd in the print section so will represent the Midlands Federation (MCPF) in both the PDI and Print sections of the National Competitions hosted by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) later in the year. Along the way, Calvin, Irene and Roger were awarded judges medals. The full results and award wining images can be seen at http://www.mcpf.co.uk/print-and-pdi-championships/

The first of these competitions, the Inter club PDI championships will be held at Warwick University Arts Centre on Saturday 14 July. It’s in a purpose built theatre with raked seating so you will get a good view of the images anywhere in the house. Tickets are £10 each and there’s no parking fees at the venue. There’s usually a very good raffle. Past events have had a full frame camera and A3 printer as prizes. So come along,  support the club and let Tony know if you would like a ticket for the event.

There’s been controversy in International Photographic Competitions in the past. This year it’s the turn of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year where the winner allegedly used a stuffed animal in his award winning image https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2018/apr/27/winning-anteater-photo-disqualified-judges-agree-stuffed-marcio-cabral

Closer to home, prints from the International Garden Photographer of the Year Exhibition https://www.ironbridge.org.uk/events/family-events/international-garden-photographer-of-the-year-exhibition/ will be shown at The Fusion Gallery adjacent to Jackfield Tile Museum https://www.ironbridge.org.uk/explore/jackfield-tile-museum/# from 3 May to 17 September. Entry to the exhibition is free.
